Hi Guys,
Just wondering what is involved in the caac sim check. Have got the nod from medical so hoping to be over shortly for the second round of sims.
Is it much the same as the CSA screening sim or a bit more "standard"? i.e. Non precision app/eng fail T/O -> single eng app -> GA/ RTO and evac?
I believe there is a day's training (sim) before the check. Is what happens in the training day the same profile as the CAAC check?
Thanksin advance.

Hi there:
The CAAC sim ride is almost identical to the first sim. You will have the same multiple failures and strong crosswinds etc.
I even had a Chinese FO for mine.
It is full jeopardy, and guys do fail. I think failure rates are around 20% - so it's by no means a rubber stamp exercise. On the group before me, 3 out of 6 failed.
Just do what you did first time round. Be prepared for anything. They switched my planned programme completely when I sat down to do the briefing, so it's worth being just generally on your game and up to speed on your memory items etc.
However the good thing is you do get a carbon copy practise before hand, so CSA do try to help. However it's the CAAC man that makes the decision. So just make sure you're polite and respectful and address them both always as Captain.........the usual Asian culture stuff.
Good luck!

Speak slowly and clearly..... The guy with me, who failed, was told quite abrubtly, 'hey Blogs, English may be your first language, it is not mine"!

Good point Craig........
It's almost like a pantomime - just over articulate everything, speak slowly and clearly, and be very very respectful........they are huge on this point. Don't under estimate "Asian face"........you can't be too polite or show too much humility. They hate over familiarity and arrogance/cockiness.......Its all about yes captain no captain to the check guy. Asian culture is very hierarchical, so you will do well to show the check guy that he is top dog.
Actually, nearly everyone I have met has been extremely pleasant and friendly. The problems here are more to do with different concepts of organisation and personal freedoms I.e expecting a roster or days off so that you can plan your life.
